Accurate At Home Informational Sibling DNA Testing

A sibling DNA test, often referred to as a sibling paternity test, is a DNA comparison done between two or more alleged bothers & sisters.  The siblingship test will determine a statistical probability of the test participants being full siblings (both parents in common), half siblings (one parent in common) or not related at all.  Our quality premium home sibling test includes testing for two siblings, but you may add more as needed, such as additional siblings or known parent(s). Our sibship DNA test can help provide definitive answers regarding the brother & sister relationship. Please choose a lab that is AABB accredited, and not one that’s just making boisterous and unverified claims. If their DNA test results are not trusted in a court of law, should you trust them in your home? Our lab is the most trsuted in the USA.

Our sibling DNA test can be used to indirectly establish paternity or maternity when the alleged father or mother is not available for a paternity or maternity test. Adding the available parent (Mom) to the test will help increase the accuracy.

Our at home informational sibling DNA tests can provide you with peace of mind of whether or not a biological relationship exists between the tested participants.  If you need the results for your sibling DNA test to be admissible evidence in a court of law or other domestic governmental agency for any legal proceedings that are before the court, then you must purchase our AABB accredited legal siblingship DNA test. Our legal sibling DNA tests may be used as admissible court approved evidence in case of child support, visitation rights, change name on the birth certificate, estate, wills, probate situations, and/or any other type case where the identity of the tested parties must be proven by an AABB accredited DNA test. If your DNA test is for immigration purposes, the USCIS/ICE & Dept. Of Homeland security may require AABB accredited DNA evidence of the biological relationship. If so, then order our AABB accredited DNA test for immigration purposes.

A sibling analysis may be performed with only two or more siblings, however it is recommended to add any known parent(s) to the test to increase the level of conclusiveness. Each person has 23 paired chromosomes in their genetic profile.  Half of the genes will come from the mother and half will come from the father.  In a scenario where the testing parties would like to determine if they have the same father and the known mother(s) take part in the siblingship test, her genetic profile will be compared against her child.  Then, all of the DNA inherited from the mother can be eliminated, therefore isolating the DNA inherited from the father.  With the paternal DNA positively identified, it will more precisely match (or not match) the other alleged sibling’s paternal DNA resulting in a more accurate and conclusive siblingship test result.  Bottom line, the more DNA that is presented for testing, the higher the accuracy that is yielded.

Additionally, if two males would like to establish whether or not they are related on the paternal (father’s) side, a Y-STR test is a good option to consider.  The Y-STR test looks at the Y-Chromosome that is passed from male to male in any unbroken male lineage.  This Y-STR is very unique, similar to a fingerprint.  When Y-STRs are compared, the result will be accurate and essentially a “Yes” or “No” answer to the question of whether or not the two tested males related through the paternal line.

On the other hand, if a relationship is trying to be determined on the maternal side, an X-SV test will offer a conclusive answer.

Other relationship tests may also help establish paternity or maternity, such as an Avuncular Aunt/Uncle test with a full brother or sister to the alleged father, or a Grandparentage test with one or both of the father’s biological parents.

In a sibling test, the DNA samples are usually collected through a cheek swab process.  If a test participant is not able to submit a swab, for example in a case where a participant may be deceased, incarcerated or otherwise unavailable, DNA can also be collected through other means.  Common forensic samples include hair (6-8 strands, must have the root ball attached), mucous on a tissue, earwax and toothbrushes.  Additionally, in certain cases of deceased individuals, tissue or blood samples may be available from a medical examiner or coroner’s office.  Forensic sampling prices apply.  Contact a DNA Case Manager at (877) 786-9543 for pricing and more details on the process.

DNA Sample Collection:

The sibling testing process is very simple. DNA sampling is normally done through a cheek, which is also called a buccal, swab.  The swab, similar to a large Q-tip, is painlessly rubbed against the inside of the cheek to collect skin cells from the inside of the mouth.  Because our lab is AABB accredited, we process all tests according to AABB guidelines, whether you purchase an informational test for peace of mind, or a legally binding test.  This is why it is very important that only an AABB accredited lab should be trusted to process your DNA samples. All of our tests are conducted twice.  For that reason, there will be 2 buccal swabs per person in your collection kit.  Do one swab on each side of the mouth.  It is suggested to rinse the mouth with water prior to swabbing.  The test participants should not smoke or drink coffee or tea within 3-4 hours before the DNA collection.  Once the swabs have been taken, prop them up to let them dry.  After 20-30 minutes, put them in their respective envelopes that were included in the test kit.  Place the samples in the return prepaid pre-addressed mailer and simply drop the samples off at the courier’s location or box to send your kit back to the lab for testing.  When all samples are in the lab, the test results will be e-mailed in 3-5 business days, and if you purchased hard copy results, it will be sent to the bill to address unless otherwise noted.
